"Crete is not an island, it's a mountain in the sea, traveling through time" sing the troubadours. The Cretan beaches are the pearls of the Mediterranean. Sunny, pure, safe, they spread all along the north and south coasts. The nearest beach, 5 km away, is Geropotamos. A peaceful beach, covered with sand and fine pebbles, with clear blue water, where Geropotamos river is flowing to the Cretan Sea, coming down from its sources on mount Psiloritis...
Panormo (10 km) and Bali (20 km) are tourist villages with beautiful beaches and watersports.
The beaches in the south Rethymnon region stretch within 40-50 miles from Dalabelos and are quite famous for their clear waters, golden sand and peacefulness: Preveli, Plakias, Saint Paul, Triopetra, Akoumia, Agia Fotini.
- Build on top of a deep cove, the village of St. Paul, overlooks the Libyan Sea and its long unspoiled beaches.
-Triopetra can boast for its sandy beach and crystal clear waters. It owes its name to a group of three huge rocks emerging from the sea near the coastline.
-The road along the Kourtaliotiko canyon leads to the edge of a palm forest. Hiking along the river (a 20 min walk) and taking dives in its waterfalls on the way is a unique experience, before coming down to Preveli, a beach of unique beauty.
-Plakias is another village with good tourist infrastructure. Located in the depth of a large cove, it is surrounded by magnificent beaches. Communication is carried out by regular boats that reach remote beaches of stunning beauty, as well as with the port villages of Sfakia, Agia Galini etc.
